portraits from the ledge

I began this project in 2024 following a visit to a skate park in Trenton, New Jersey, one cold late November afternoon. People of all ages and backgrounds were zipping around, executing tricks I never could have dreamed of doing as a kid. It was great re-introduction to the skating culture. Having grown up in the 1980s, skateboarding was a big part of my life for a time, but eventually I outgrew it. (I had a pink Nash Executioner skateboard but could never afford my holy grail, a Vision Gator.) My goal for this project is to document the diverse skateboarding community in and around Trenton, primarily through street portraits.
